WHAT HR SHOULD REALLY BE

HR is not about managing employees.

It is about enabling the business through people.

For too long, HR has been understood through its most visible administrative activities:
recruitment, employment documentation, payroll, policies and compliance.

These things matter. But they are the infrastructure of HR not its purpose.

I see HR differently.

HR should be the function that connects business strategy with organizational capability and
human potential.

It should understand where the business is going, what capabilities are needed to get there,
how the organization needs to evolve, what leaders need to enable that evolution, and what
employees need in order to perform, grow and contribute.

HR should therefore be present in the conversations that shape the business — not invited
only when a people-related issue appears.

It should help leaders answer questions such as:

  • Do we have the right organization for our strategy?
  • Do we have the capabilities we need to grow?
  • Are our leaders equipped to lead?
  • Are people clear about what is expected of them and why it matters?
  • Are our systems, structures and ways of working enabling performance — or creating friction?
  • What are our people telling us that the business needs to hear?

This is where I believe HR creates its real value:

Translating business priorities into people and organizational solutions.
Translating people insights into better business decisions.

That means moving beyond HR as a service function towards HR as an organizational
capability and a business partner in the truest sense of the word.

For me, the future of HR is not about doing more HR.

It is about understanding the business better, understanding people better, and creating the
bridge between the two.

That is where Executive Human begins
